Meet the Candidates
Dear Co-op owners,
We are pleased to present the candidates for this year's Moscow Food Co-op Board of Directors annual election. The Board’s work is both fiduciary and collaborative and is vital to the well-being of the Co-op. Having qualified Directors who work together for the good of the Co-op is critical for the Co-op to meet the needs of our Ownership and our community. When you vote in this election, you are engaging in the second of the Seven Cooperative Principles: Democratic Member Control. This principle is basic and essential as cooperatives are democratically-controlled member-owned organizations. Casting a vote to decide who guides the future of the Moscow Food Co-op is truly a powerful act. Thank you for your participation!
Yours in cooperation,
The Communications and Elections Committee
How to Vote Online
When voting begins, all owners who have an email address on file will receive an email with a link to the electronic ballot. If you do not have an email address attached to your Co-op ownership, you can access your ballot online at moscowfoodcoop.simplyvoting.com after the election period opens on Tuesday, March 3.
To log in to vote, you will be prompted to enter the first four letters of the last name on the ownership, and the first four digits of the phone number on record. Voting privileges are extended to the primary ownership account holder, in line with the "One Owner, One Vote" cooperative principle. All owners are welcome to vote, even if you do not have an email address. Please contact us at the phone number listed below for more information.
The election runs from March 3 - 16.
Results will be announced Wednesday, March 18.
How To Submit Your Vote - ranked choice voting
Vote for candidates: We are using ranked-choice voting to score candidates for election to the Board. The process will give you the ability to choose your first, second, and third preferences from the pool of candidates. Your first choice will be awarded 3 points, second choice will receive 2 points, and your third choice will receive 1 point. The three candidates receiving the highest scores will be elected to the Board for a three-year term.
Here’s an example:
1st Choice Candidate - Rank them as a 1 and they’ll receive three points
2nd Choice Candidate - Rank them as a 2 and they’ll receive two points
3rd Choice Candidate - Rank them as a 3 and they’ll receive one point
Research shows that ranked-choice voting results in election outcomes that more accurately reflect the general preferences of the voters than just “choose three” voting. It gives you more power to express your preference.
Abstain your vote: You can abstain by marking abstain.
