Growing Up Gardening is a pilot program sponsored by the Moscow Food Co-op, which seeks to provide a fun and educational gardening experience for students of all ages. This program runs during the 2014 gardening season (approximately June-October).
Here’s how it works: We’ve purchased and tilled a larger gardening plot at Hamilton Community Gardens (#27) that has been divided into sixteen 3’x3’ mini-plots. Students interested in receiving one of these mini-plots for the season must fill out and submit an application before 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 3. We will then draw 16 applicant names at random, and recipients will be announced at our June 3rd Tuesday Growers Market, which is located in the Co-op parking lot from 4-6:30 p.m. Students will have access to the host of gardening supplies available at Hamilton Community Gardens, and are able to request additional assistance and supplies (such as plant seeds and starts) from the Co-op via the application to this program. Students will need transportation to and from the plots, and must be monitored by an adult at all times. Although this is the responsibility of each child’s parent or guardian, we are able to facilitate communication between program participants in order to arrange group trips, ride-shares, educational opportunities, etc.
