December’s Dime in Time recipient: Moscow School District’s Moscow Mentor/Bear Buddies Program
This program strengthens our community by providing nurturing friendships between youth and responsible, caring adults. Mentors provide guidance as these youth pursue personal, family and academic goals.
This program has received less funding for the 2013-14 school year than it has in the past, so the program’s coordinators are seeking community funding to support ongoing program operations. The funds received through the Dime in Time program will help with operating expenses, including staff compensation for recruiting, training and coordinating new volunteer mentors, fees associated with criminal history and background checks, and supplies for events and recognition for the mentors, mentees and their families.
Dime in Time is a community program of the Moscow Food Co-op. Customers are given a 10-cent refund every time they bring in a reusable tote bag or drink cup. Cashiers will ask these customers if they would like to keep their refund or donate it to the Dime in Time recipient of the month. A committee comprised of Co-op staff, community members and
Co-op Participating Owners chooses the recipients. Award recipients will, in turn, write an article for the
Co-op’s Community News for the month for which they are chosen, telling about the organization and their plans
for how they will use the funds.
This Co-op program is to benefit non-profit, non-sectarian and non-discriminatory organizations whose goals complement or support the Mission Statement of the Co-op.
